The deadline for Good for Age entries for the 2011 Virgin London marathon is approaching. Check the qualifying times to see if you can apply and avoid the ballot.

Make sure that you don’t leave it to the last minute this year to send in your ‘Good For Age’ proof for the 2011 Virgin London Marathon which takes place on Sunday 17th April. If you already have a particularly fast marathon time since January 1st 2009 then don’t forget to send in your proof for guaranteed entry. The deadline is 21st August 2010 with the completed entry forms needing to be submitted by 4th September 2010.

From my experience last year and hearing from a few other runners don’t rely on Royal Mail on getting your entry in on time even if you send it recorded or registered delivery. Things still go missing in the post and its hard to get compensation for a piece of paper. Get you proof and entry in now and if it goes AWOL in the postal system you will have time to resubmit another entry.

Good For Age Entries

You can apply for a good for age entry if you’ve run a full marathon in the same time, or faster than, the times listed below:

Canoe and Kayak Olympic, World and European Slalom champions are in Nottingham this week (28-31st May) for the European Canoe Slalom Championships. British paddlers are hoping to caplitalise on competing on home water.

Canoe and Kayak Olympic, World and European Slalom champions are in Nottingham this week (28-31st May) for the European Canoe Slalom Championships. British paddlers are hoping to caplitalise on competing on home water and aim to build on recent successes including David Florence’s Silver in Beijing in the C1 class, and current defending K1 European Champion Campbell Walsh.

Thursday afternoon was a chance for us to soak up the sun and watch the Women’s K1 (single kayak) and Men’s C2 (double canoe) preliminary team events. The team events involve 3 boats from a team completing the course at the same time and crossing the finishing line within 15 seconds of the first paddler.

The individual events had happened earlier in the day and it was amazing that with the added maneuvering round team mates to pass through the gates the team times were only around 15 seconds slower than the individual runs. With time penalties for hitting or missing a gate or not finishing within the required time it was an anxious time for spectators and paddlers as the provisional results changed as penalties were awarded. With the top five from each race going through to Saturday’s races for the medals, both GB teams progressed with the C2 team first in their heat with a clear run and no penalties.

The event continues over the weekend and with the expected good weather and great home results I recommend you make a visit to cheer on our paddlers.
